The History of Jakarta
Jakarta is the capital in Indonesia. Jakarta city is located on the northwest of Java island. Jakarta began its history as a port city called "Sunda Kelapa". In 1552, Portuguese people arrived at Sunda Kelapa for the envoy of the Governor of Malacca and they were the first western nation who had visited Sunda Kelapa. With the aim of asking permission to establish a fortress near to the Ciliwung River. After successfully entering into an agreement with the Sunda Kelapa rulers, the Portuguese returned to Malacca. In 1527, the Portuguese returned to Sunda Kelapa. But without knowing, Sunda Kelapa had authorised by Fatahillah and the Portuguese tried to reclaim Sunda Kelapa. Then there was a battle between the Portuguese and Fatahillah around the bay of Jakarta. Fatahillah won and changed the name Sunda Kelapa to Jayakarta. Cornelis De Houtman came (1596) and he founded the VOC (1619). The name Jayakarta changed to Batavia under the leadership of the Netherlands ± 350 years colonized in Indonesia. The Dutch surrendered to Japan (1942), then Batavia renamed as Jakarta which is still maintained today. As the center of business, politics, and culture, Jakarta is home to the headquarters of state companies, private companies, and foreign companies.

There are five municipalities in Jakarta. Central Jakarta, West Jakarta, South Jakarta, East Jakarta and North Jakarta

The major transportation in Jakarta mostly are cars and motorcycles. But it also provides trains, planes, and any other traditional transportation such as bajaj, becak, and so on. Jakarta is served by two airports, namely Soekarno Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma airport. Most visitors land to Soekarno Hatta because we can get out of the city as soon as possible.

1. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) or "Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park" (literally translated) is a cultural-based recreation area located in East Jakarta, Indonesia. It has an area of ​​around 250 hectares (1.0 km2). This park is a synopsis of Indonesian culture, with almost all aspects of daily life in Indonesia packed in separate pavilions with collections of Rumah Adat (traditional houses) as examples of Indonesian architecture, clothes, dances and traditions. In addition, there are lakes with miniature islands in the center, cable cars, museums, Keong Emas Imax cinema, a theater called the Theater of My Homeland (Tanah Airku Theater) and other recreational facilities that makes TMII becomes one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city.

2. Monas (The National Monument) is a 132 m (433 ft) tower in the centre of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta, symbolizing the fight for Indonesia. It is the national monument of the Republic of Indonesia, built to commemorate the struggle for Indonesian independence. Construction began in 1961 under the direction of President Soekarno. Monas was opened to the public in 1975. It is topped by a flame covered with gold foil. The monument and the museum are open daily from 08.00 until 16.00 Western Indonesia Time (UTC+7) throughout the week except for the Mondays when the monument is closed. Since April 2016, the monument also opens during night time, from 19.00 until 22.00 in Tuesday to Friday, and from 19.00 until 00.00 in Saturday and Sunday.

Jakarta has become a center of business, commercial and industrial activities because Jakarta is a region that is located in the center of government and the center of international activities. This makes the city of Jakarta become crowded and congested. Some programs have started like busway and waterway which aims to increase mobility in Jakarta, to increase the quality of life in Jakarta and the most important is to reduce congestion in Jakarta.
